I am going to school tomorrow

I am back in the Seattle area once again! It has been barely over a year since I started traveling. In that time, I blogged about 14 countries on three continents. I went to the early-morning fish market in Tokyo, saw the Northern Lights in Finland, visited one of the world’s oldest golf courses in Scotland, ate figs in a garden in Amman, rode a bike along the Amstel River in Amsterdam, celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, and even saw a basketball game at the Summer Olympics in London!

Tomorrow, I will be going back to school to meet some new students and tell them about my adventures. These students are third graders at West Woodland Elementary School. I hope that they will be interested in my adventures and will enjoy hearing about the places I visit.

This year, I am planning to make lots of exciting trips all over the world. I'm getting ready right now for a trip to Singapore. After that, I will go wherever I have the opportunity to travel -- please check back to my blog periodically to find out about my adventures.

As always, I welcome questions and comments about all of my posts. If you would like to learn more about the places I have visited or to offer suggestions for things I might do or places I might visit, please ask a parent or teacher to help you go to my blog and leave a comment.

  1. Dear Benny,
Thank you for coming to West Woodland and telling us about your trips! Your souvenirs are really cool!
How is your trip to Singapore going? Anything interesting happen yet? What monuments and sites have you seen? We are wondering what the weather is like there right now? About half of us think it is cold right now and the other half think it is hot.
Thanks again for your visit! We really enjoyed it.

    Happy travels!

  2. Hi class,

Thanks for taking the time to write! I'm sorry that I have been behind on getting my posts up, but I have been busy traveling. I'll put up another of Bobbe's posts from her Mediterranean adventure right now.

I am enjoying my trip to Singapore very much. I hope to have a lot to tell you about it soon. I'm also going to Thailand as part of my swing through Southeast Asia, so I should have a lot of fun things to tell you about.

Those of you who guessed that it's hot in Singapore were absolutely right. The high temperature was 82°F today. Because Singapore is so far south, it doesn't really get very cold, even in the middle of the winter. There is also really high humidity – it was 94% today! My fur feels sticky all the time in that kind of heat. Fortunately, Singapore has a lot of really wonderful swimming pools that I can use to cool off.

While I am in Singapore, Bobbe is visiting Morocco. She is living at a university in the Atlas Mountains. Even though you probably think Morocco is really hot, the place where Bobbe is right now is actually really cold. They even get a lot of snow in the winter. Look forward to the first of her posts from Morocco soon.

    1. Dear Benny,
Thanks for your reply. We have some more questions for you. We are wondering what kind of food they have in Singapore.
Also we wondering about how much it snows in the Atlas Mountains and how does Boobi get around?
In Seattle it is mild, cold -about 45 degrees with some rain and a little fog.
We are done studying Egypt and now we are studying the Native Americans of the Northwest Coast.
Chicken Mummy update - the chicken mummies aren't really doing anything, they don't stink but they aren't really mummifying yet. We think it is because the climate in Seattle is a bit different than Egypt! In the books we read it says mummification takes 40-60 days but here it might take over 100!

      Happy travels from room 201!

    2. Hi class!

I'm sorry I haven't blogged in a while -- I have been busy traveling around Southeast Asia. I have visited Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. I'll have posts for you soon from all of those places.

In the meantime, Bobbe finally has her first of many posts from Morocco up for you to enjoy. As Bobbe just wrote in her new post, it snows quite a lot (a few times a year at least) in the Atlas Mountains if you go high enough up. Look how steep the roofs are at the university where she is staying!

The food in Singapore is very interesting, but not too weird. I'm staying with my friend Nick, who is fairly adventuresome and will eat pretty much whatever you put in front of him. Nick has explained to me that Singapore doesn't allow you to sell a lot of the really weird foods you can get in other places. In Thailand, for example, you can order fried bat. Doesn't that sound terrible? But in Singapore, bat meat is illegal.

The one thing you do have to know about Singapore is that lots of people from all over Asia live there and travel there. It is a very ethnically diverse city. The largest ethnic group there is Chinese, followed by Malay, followed by Indian. As a result, you can get all sorts of different kinds of food there. If you want Chinese food, Malay food, or Indian food, then you are particularly in luck. When you want to eat, you can just walk outside and find groups of people cooking and selling all kinds of different food on the street. It is very convenient.

Your mummies sound very interesting. I'd like an update about them when you know something. It would seem to me that Seattle would be kind of a wet place to try to mummify something. I'm curious to know whether it works!
